El Gremio de Alquimistas ha estado guardando durante mucho tiempo el secreto de la fabricación del fuego valyrio y ahora pone sus conocimientos al servicio de la Casa Lannister. El fuego valyrio es una sustancia de color verde con un tremendo poder explosivo. El fuego, el calor o incluso un fuerte golpe pueden detonar la sustancia, que arde con llamas verdes hasta que se consume por completo. La armadura es inútil contra un ataque de este tipo, e incluso los veteranos más curtidos apenas pueden afrontar el pánico que suscita semejante agresión incontestable. Sin embargo, los piromantes no pueden equiparse con ningún tipo de armadura voluminosa, de manera que es frecuente que el enemigo concentre sus ataques a distancia sobre una unidad tan peligrosa. Así y todo, los piromantes pueden romper cualquier línea y desbandar cualquier formación si se les emplea adecuadamente.
