Mientras Mortarion se adelanta para actuar como la vanguardia de la flota, recae sobre Lorgar y Perturabo la tarea de reunir a Fulgrim y a Angron, quienes ya han sido enaltecidos como demonios y tal vez se encuentren más allá del alcance de la voluntad del Señor de la guerra. No obstante, Horus está malherido, y, mientras la batalla más grande de la galaxia se cierne sobre Terra, es Maloghurst quien debe asegurarse de que su fracturada Legión se mantenga unida y de rescatar al propio Horus del borde del abismo.
